SOL TARASCO

In 2003, the granting of a Denominacion de Origen (D.O.) made Charanda the first and only Mexican spirit derived from sugar cane to receive this recognition and protection.
Charanda, Mexico’s rum is a Mexican spirit created via double distillation of sugar cane and can be matured in barrels, making the process very similar to rum production. Despite its rather overlooked status, Mexico has a rich history of producing sugar-cane-based rum dating back to the early 16th century, when the Spanish introduced cultivation of this tropical plant.
The specifications state that D.O. Charanda must be produced in one of 16 municipalities among the 113 that make up the state of Michoacán in western central Mexico.
THE RANGE
The Sol Tarasco range is very similar to the French Agricole style of Rhums in terms of production, meaning 100% local cane juice based.
The Pachecos only select sugar canes cultivated over 1270 meters above sea level from their own plants for this range. Sol Tarasco is made using traditional production methods and a slow distillation process, before being aged in selected ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels for around 4 years, and bottled at 40% ABV. No sugar or additives added.
